Driver Trainer - Preston Tanks

Purpose of the Role

To ensure all company drivers are fully trained and competent in the safe operation of road tankers. The Senior Driver / Driver Trainer will maintain consistent standards across the driving team, ensuring every load is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Train and assess new and existing drivers on the safe loading, operation, and unloading of road tankers.
• Ensure all drivers operate to a consistent and professional standard.
• Conduct driver assessments, ride-alongs, and refresher training as required.
• Promote safe working practices in line with company policies and industry regulations.
• Maintain accurate training and competency records.
• Support the Transport Manager in developing driver standards, procedures, and training materials.
• Act as a role model for safety, professionalism, and attention to detail.

• Drivers are competent, confident, and compliant with company safety and operational standards.
• Consistent and uniform performance across all drivers.
• Safe and efficient loading, transport, and unloading of all products.
• Reduction in incidents, near misses, and loading errors.

Skills and Experience

• Valid HGV Class 1 licence – Essential
• Proven experience operating road tankers – Essential
• Experience in training, mentoring, or assessing drivers – Preferred
• Strong understanding of tanker operations, health & safety, and road transport regulations
• Excellent communication and coaching skills
